Forum: GratefulDead Subject: 1990-03-15 Cap. Cen, Best Althea ?

Can there be or is there a better Althea than the one showcased on Live W/O Net ? My searches have found none that has the sparkle this paticular example displays. Can a kind soul point me in the direction of something comparable to this one?
The song has all the elements of a great story, the emotion the treachery I love it. I love a grate Wharf Rat but the mystery of "Althea" has always intriqued me. Thank you forum, hippie

I don't particularly find anything intriguing about this Althea. It seems a little short, and somewhat fast, compared to most versions I've heard.

I take that back. This AUD plays back at a faster than normal speed. The other AUD on the IA clocks in at 7 min, 5 sec, but this one clocks in at less than 6 min, 45 sec. Maybe that can be corrected.

Your right about this source being to fast ,I'm sure they must have used a different souce or was def corrected on LWOAN but my comment/ question stands. This Althea has the guitar riffs I'm looking for, I dont have many examples from the 90's to compare thats why I asked.
I like the 82-05-21 Greek and the 80-09-06 Maine State Fair(not sure of venue name)but neither have that really crisp sound IMO. No matter, Thanx I keep looking

1) 3-28-81. Search out the video as this is the best version ever

2) 7-1-80. The ending jam goes on forever, not quite as good as 3-28.

3) 12-30-86. Bob's got that interesting guitar sound (hard to explain, but give it a spin)

Nice Dream...
Talk about living on solid rock- those guys couls have had fun.
I was listening to the Clapton/Winwood live in new york in the car the other day and wondered what Clapton would have done if he were in Warren's shoes for the recent Tour. Another dream...

Sweet

Love this vid, it occurs to me while watching just now that this is a genuinely 'Jerry' tune. Anyone know of any interesting covers of the beautiful song?

I really like the Althea from 6/24/91 for a latter day version. It builds nicely with good contributions from Bruce. Bob lays down some loud metallic sounding notes at the end. Pretty cool, in my book. I doubt anyone would put it on a top 5 list but it still is a good one. By the way, can anyone help this noob in learning how to post links to archived shows?
I'm sure it's not too hard, bit I can't quite figure it out.

hey Bob'sdog,

if you are talking about placing a link in a forum post all you need to do is copy the link of the show and paste it into your post.

(two browser windows, one on the show and one writing the post makes the process easier...)

also, posting allows for embedding links with html in text or images...

please let us know if you are wanting to do something else...

I will use one of my favs for an example:

(sorry pre-althea...)
